Pablo González appointed at Orchestre national d’Île-de-France
Pablo González has been appointed Music Director and Principal Conductor of Orchestre national d’Île-de-France, resident at the Paris Philharmonie. He begins his tenure in September 2027, leading the orchestra for four seasons.
González has worked with the orchestra several times, most recently in February with ‘Heroes’, a Richard Strauss programme. Pierre Brouchoud, the orchestra’s General Director, said, ‘Pablo González has conducted the orchestra on several occasions, and each time he has left a deep impression on the musicians with his high standards and inspiring commitment.’
The orchestra was founded in 1974 and its 95 permanent musicians give around 100 concerts a season across the Île-de-France region and at major festivals. With the mission of bringing music to as many people as possible at its core, it offers imaginative outreach initiatives and pioneers in audiovisual production, using its own state-of-the-art recording studio.
González said: ‘I am deeply honoured and thrilled to be appointed Music Director of the Orchestre national d’Île-de-France. From our very first encounter, I was struck by the orchestra’s extraordinary commitment, artistic vitality, and remarkable versatility. ONDIF is not only a superb ensemble – it is also a socially engaged institution with a powerful educational mission that resonates profoundly with my own values. I eagerly anticipate the 2027–2028 season, when we will embark on this exciting artistic journey together. Until then, my heart is full of ideas, hopes and sincere gratitude for the trust that has been placed in me.’
Renowned for his versatility across symphonic, choral and operatic repertoire, González combines musical sensitivity with an openness to other art forms. His new role in Paris comes alongside a flourishing European career, with recent and upcoming collaborations with orchestras such as Helsinki Philharmonic, Residentie Orkest, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Frankfurt Radio Symphony and NDR Radiophilharmonie. He was appointed Principal Guest Conductor at Tenerife Symphony Orchestra in May 2025.
