Maestro Arts welcomes the Takács Quartet

We are pleased to welcome the Takács Quartet to our roster for worldwide management (excluding North and South America). Now in its 52nd year, the group continues to develop its artistic profile through new commissions and imaginative projects, while sustaining the musical excellence across the entire repertoire that has established it as one of the most successful quartets today.

Founded in 1975 at the Liszt Academy of Music by Gábor Takács-Nagy, Károly Schranz, Gábor Ormai and András Fejér, the quartet has undergone only five personnel changes in its history, with a sixth taking place this year as Mihai Marica succeeds founding cellist András Fejér. Since 1986 the ensemble has held a residency at University of Colorado, Boulder, balancing an extensive international touring schedule with its longstanding commitment to teaching. The quartet has won numerous accolades including Grammy and Gramophone awards, and since 2005 has recorded exclusively for Hyperion.

Thomas Hull will manage the group worldwide, excluding North and South America, and said: ‘I have long been a fan of the Takács Quartet, so when the opportunity came to succeed their wonderful manager Christa Phelps, I couldn’t resist. It’s a privilege to work with an ensemble with such a legacy, whose constant search for fresh perspectives and openness to new ideas makes them a natural fit for Maestro Arts.’

Edward Dusinberre, first violinist since 1993, said: ‘At this pivotal moment we are very grateful to Christa for her unwavering support, creativity and commitment over many decades. We are delighted to welcome Mihai into the group and excited about our new projects. As we develop commissions and interdisciplinary concepts, we are excited to partner with the dynamic and imaginative team at Maestro Arts. We’ve known Tom Hull for many years and are delighted to be working with him.’

Seldy Cramer remains the quartet’s longtime manager in North and South America. Christa Phelps, who has represented the quartet worldwide (excluding North and South America) since January 1984, is stepping away from artist management, but will continue to manage the group’s European tours until March 2027.

The quartet will give its final concerts with Fejér at the Music Academy of the West in early July. Future projects in the new formation include the Franck Piano Quintet with Steven Osborne and a recording of works by Gabriela Lena Frank.
