New Tokyo season to include Treliński and Pelly productions
The new season at New National Theatre Tokyo (NNTT), whose Artistic Director is Kazushi Ono, will include productions by Laurent Pelly and Mariusz Treliński.
Pelly's Giulio Cesare opens on 2 October, set in a museum of antiquities, in a production that was first staged at the Opéra National de Paris in 2011 and was intended as the first production of NNTT's new Baroque strand, but was postponed due to the pandemic.
Treliński's new production of Boris Godunov opens on 15 November, conducted by Ono himself. Ono writes of the production: 'Ever since I worked with Mariusz on the production of The Fiery Angel at the Aix-en-Provence Festival in 2018, we've been planning this project together. He treats this work not as an ancient historical tale, but as a contemporary psychological drama about our fear of our own existence, inferiority complex and loneliness, which can be found inside us all.'
Ono also conducts La Bohème, opening on 28 June 2023.
