Our artists take part in two world premieres at this year's String Quartet Biennale in Amsterdam's Muziekgebouw, the fifth edition of the festival.

The Maxwell Quartet gives the first performance of Eleanor Alberga's Fourth String Quartet, co-commissioned with Dublin International Chamber Music Festival, performing it alongside Prokofiev's Second String Quartet (29 Jan). They also take part in the closing concert of the festival, joining members of the Engegård Quartet to perform Olli Mustonen's Nonet (31 Jan).

The Marmen Quartet joins DOMNIQ to perform Samuel Adams' Devotions, co-commissioned with Tromp Percussion Eindhoven, as part of an eclectic programme for string quartet and percussion (30 Jan). The theme 'Time is how you spend your love' also offers works by Beethoven, Haydn, Cassandra Miller, Gity Raza and Morton Feldman. The day before, the quartet performs Brahms' First String Quartet as part of the festival's morning 'Super-romantic' strand (29 Jan).

The String Quartet Biennale Amsterdam runs from 24 to 31 January, with leading string quartets performing diverse repertoire, this year including 14 world premieres.
