Jonian Ilias Kadesha to curate in Leeds
Jonian Ilias Kadesha has been appointed Artistic Director of this year's Leeds International Chamber Music Festival, with six concerts between 15 October 2024 and 25 March 2025 following a theme of European Wanderings.
Kadesha explains his choice in the brochure: 'When we think about classical music, we tend to think chronologically, but thinking in a geographical way allows us to consider the impact a location had on the music created there. Thinking about music in this way led me to ponder the different important cities throughout Europe that influenced the course of history and how they impacted classical music, whether that was due to having a strong folk scene, or perhaps to political events. The cities we visit are all hugely significant, cultural melting-pots.'
Journies include London to Paris, with repertoire by Purcell, Tailleferre, Fauré and Britten; Vienna to Budapest, with Brahms, Veress and Lajtha; and Athens to Bucharest, with Skalkottas, Bartók, Xenakis and Enescu. Kadesha is joined by colleagues from Trio Gaspard, Quartetto Indaco and CAERUS chamber ensemble, and pianist Alasdair Beatson.
