Jonathan Stockhammer joins MA roster

We are delighted to announce that conductor Jonathan Stockhammer has joined the Maestro Arts roster for general management.

Based in Berlin, Stockhammer works with many of the world’s leading orchestras and new-music ensembles, in repertoire ranging from from Debussy and Janáček to Xenakis and Zappa. In recent years he has developed a particular affinity with Mahler, opening the PyeongChang Festival performing the Second Symphony, ‘Resurrection’, with Seoul Philharmonic, with whom he also gave the Korean premiere of Britten’s Turn of the Screw. 

A passionate advocate for contemporary music, he has conducted premieres by composers including Georg Friedrich Haas, Thierry Pécou, Toshio Hosokawa, Alex Paxton and Marko Nikodijevic. His longstanding collaboration with Ensemble Modern includes the ECHO Klassik Award-winning recording Greggery Peccary & Other Persuasions, featuring the music of Frank Zappa.

Stockhammer's operatic work reflects his breadth and versatility, and he has appeared at many of the world’s leading opera houses, including Vienna State Opera, Opernhaus Zürich, Staatsoper Berlin, New York City Opera and New National Theatre, Tokyo.

This season, he returns to Komische Oper Berlin to conduct Philip Glass’s Akhnaten in Barrie Kosky’s production, and conducts Seattle Symphony in music by Szymanowski, Stravinsky and Unsuk Chin. He also continues his work with orchestras and ensembles across Germany and internationally.
