James Bonas between Glasgow and Lyon
After a Summer in Glasgow exploring new territories with the Royal Scottish Ballet's production of The Crucible, James Bonas entered the world of French farce with Ravel's L'heure espagnole at the Opéra de Lyon. This new production followed the highly-acclaimed L'enfant et les sortilèges and is a continuation of his collaboration with animator Grégoire Pont.
But James' exploration of French opera repertoire didn't end there. He then returned to Glasgow, to direct Poulenc's burlesque Les mamelles de Tirésias with the Royal Conservatory of Scotland. This double bill was completed by Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, thus creating a very contrasted evening in mood and style.
Next month sees another French classic, Chabrier's L'étoile, in Lisbon's Teatro Nacional de Sao Carlos. A reason to be over the moon!
