François-Xavier Roth in Cologne and on tour
François-Xavier Roth and the Gürzenich Orchestra continue their exploration of the works of Schumann with performances of the Violin Concerto with Isabelle Faust on 10, 11 and 12 February in Cologne.
They revisit Mahler's 5th Symphony, premiered by the orchestra under the composer's baton in 1904. Their recording of this work, on Harmonia Mundi (HMM905285) was their first together and has been widely acclaimed.
Following the Cologne concerts, Roth and the orchestra take the Mahler on tour, with Faust playing the Mendelssohn concerto, to Turin (Auditorium Agnelli, 13 Feb), Budapest (Müpa, 15 Feb), Zürich (Tonhalle Maag, 16 Feb) and Vienna (Konzerthaus, 18 Feb).
Due for release on 22 February is their second Mahler recording together, the mighty 3rd Symphony, which was also premiered by this orchestra in 1902.
