Four Gramophone nominations for MA artists
Gramophone magazine has nominated recordings including four of our artists among its 66 nominations in this year's Gramophone Awards.
Steven Osborne's recording of Tippett's Piano Concerto with London Philharmonic and Edward Gardner is nominated in the Concerto category. Gramophone's review said: 'Steven Osborne is today's undisputed master of this score... I've heard Osborne play the work with Mirga Gražinyté-Tyla and Andrew Davis, among others, but this completely symbiotic live account with Edward Gardner's LPO has both repose and electricity to surpass all others.'
François-Xavier Roth's recording of Bizet's Djamileh with Les Siècles is nominated in the Opera category. Gramophone's reviewer wrote of it: 'Djamileh, meanwhile, gets its finest performance on disc from François-Xavier Roth and Les Siècles... Roth is marvellously alert to both its ambiguous subtleties and the way Bizet makes the smallest of musical gestures speak emotional volumes.'
Mihhail Gerts and Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin accompany Maria Dueñas in her recordings of Berlioz and Saint-Saéns, nominated in the Instrumental category, and Elena Schwarz conducts BBC Philharmonic in Tom Coult's violin concerto, Pleasure Garden, with soloist Daniel Pioro, in the Contemporary category.
Winners will be announced at the Gramophone Award ceremony on 15 October.
